David Jarrett
Agent(s): Julian Alexander

David Jarrett has been a doctor for forty years, thirty of which as an NHS consultant in geriatric and stroke medicine. He is a clinician, teacher, and former examiner and medical manager with extensive experience of frailty, death and dying and the modern world’s failure to confront the realities. He has also worked in Canada, India, Africa and the USSR. He is married with two children and lives in Hampshire during the week, and in London at weekends.

His book 33 Meditations on Death (Doubleday, 2020) is a series of reflections on death in all its forms: the science of it, the medicine, the tragedy and the comedy. Dr David Jarrett draws on family stories and case histories from his thirty years of treating the old, demented and frail to try to find his own understanding of the end. It was described by the Independent as “a remarkably likeable guide to a grisly subject…daunting, yet ultimately life-affirming.”
