Dick & Angel Strawbridge

Angel is a designer and entrepreneur whose events company, The Vintage Patisserie, won her the backing of the dragons on Dragons Den in 2010. She is the author of three beautiful books with Octopus Books: The Vintage Tea Party Year (2012), The Vintage Sweets Book (2013), The Vintage Tea Party (2018).

Dick is an engineer-inventor, sustainability expert, motivational speaker and TV presenter. Following an army career, Dick entered the world of television, appearing on shows such as Coast (BBC Two), Scrapheap Challenge, Celebrity Masterchef (BBC One) and Beat the Ancestors (Channel 5). He has also written Practical Self-Sufficiency (DK, 2020) and the Made at Home series (Octopus) with his son, James Strawbridge.

They are best known for their work together on Channel 4’s Escape to The Chateau and Chateau DIY, in which they detail their renovation of a 19th-century fairy tale chateau in the Pays de la Loire. After its long-run of popularity and success the show came to an end after its ninth series. The couple went on a nationwide tour, Dick and Angel Dare to Do It, running through Feb-Mar 2022, and embarked on the US Tour, beginning in February 2024. In June 2024 Dick and Angel released a new series with Channel 4 called Secret France. They also have a podcast, Dick and Angel’s Chat…eau what was made available on all screening platforms in October 2023.

Dick and Angel have been nominated for the 2024 National Reality TV Awards for the second year in a row. They have been nominated in two categories including Best Male Personality, and both for Reality Person of the Year.

The couple have just published their third bestseller, The Chateau: Forever Home (Orion, 2023), in which they outline the final chapter and challenges Covid-19 bought in the Chateau. They have previously written two best-selling memoirs:

  • A Year at the Chateau (Orion, 2020) follows Dick and Angel from when they first moved to France in the depths of winter, their unforgettable wedding, and their incredibly special first Christmas.
  • Living The Chateau Dream (Orion, 2021) is about the years of hard graft that followed, turning their derelict and abandoned chateau in France’s Pays de la Loire into a thriving family home and sustainable business.
