Dr Gemma Newman (also known as The Plant Power Doctor) is an an author, podcast host and a GP. She has worked in medicine for almost two decades and is the Senior Partner at a family medical practice. Gemma has a specialist interest in holistic health, plant based nutrition and lifestyle medicine. In her practice she has come to understand that body, mind and soul are not separate, and that it is only in addressing the root causes of stress and disconnection that we can truly heal, from the inside out. She is also a founding member and ambassador for Plant Based Health Professionals UK and a member of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine.

Gemma gives holistic health, nutrition and lifestyle advice to her patients, who have gained tremendous results using the power of their plate, as well as numerous others via her 87,000 strong Plant Power Doctor social media platform. She is regularly invited to teach other doctors and the general public about the benefits of plant-based nutrition via training programs, podcasts and conferences.

As a broadcaster Gemma has been featured on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky News Sunrise as well as BBC Radio. She has contributed to articles for magazines including Glamour, Zest and Health magazine, and was featured in The Daily Telegraph for her work in plant-based nutrition. Dr Newman has spoken on many podcasts including The Rich Roll Podcast, the ‘Feel Better Live More’ podcast by Dr Rangan Chatterjee and she has a regular weekly slot as an expert on the Deliciously Ella Podcast ‘Wellness Unpacked’. She previously hosted the popular podcast by Holland and Barratt ‘The Wellness Edit’ which was nominated for Podcast of the Year by the PPA Awards.

Her first book The Plant Power Doctor (Ebury, 2021) teaches us how to futureproof our body and mind through the transformative effect of plant-powered eating.  Her second book, Get Well, Stay Well: The Six Healing Health Habits Everyone Should Know (Ebury, 2023) is a unique combination of nutrition, psychology and wellness with personalised journalling sections for the reader to create their own wellness plan.
