Janice Y.K. Lee is a Korean-American author who has split her life between America and Hong Kong. A graduate from Harvard University and former features editor at Elle and Mirabella magazines, Janice currently writes full time. Her first book, The Piano Teacher (HarperCollins, 2009) a compelling love story set in 1940’s Hong Kong was a New York Times best-seller.

Her latest book, The Expatriates (Little Brown, 2016) is a novel about overpowering grief, the transformative power of forgiveness and how finding oneself in a strange land can be the best way to find one’s true self. The three protagonists, Mercy, Hilary, and Margaret each face tragedy, social disconnect, and a loss of identity in the delicate and privileged world of Hong Kong’s expatriate community. As each woman struggles with her own demons, their lives collide in ways that have irreversible consequences for them all. This is currently being adapted by Amazon Video into a six-part television series starring Nicole Kidman.
