Mike Parker is a British travel writer, ex stand-up comic, wanderer, former Plaid Cymru candidate and cultural commentator living a deep rural idyll in Wales.

His book Map Addict (Collins, 2010) was a commercial and critical success which explored Mike’s obsession with maps in a one-man war against the moronic blandishments of the Sat Nav age.

The Wild Rover (Collins, 2012) was an idiosyncratic, anarchic and d witty exploration into a glorious and passionate British subject – footpaths and the history of land ownership.

On The Red Hill (Heinemann, 2019) is a haunting and multi-layered memoir about Mike and his partner and the house they inherited from another gay couple. It is an elegiac account of landscape, community, finding love, and a place to call home.

His new book, All The Wide Border (Harper North, 2023) is a funny, warm and timely meditation on identity and belonging, following the scenic route along the England–Wales border: Britain’s deepest faultline. It was a Waterstones Travel Book of the Year 2023 and the Welsh Waterstones Book of the Month 2024.
