Teresa Lim is Singaporean but has lived in London since 1992.

The Interpreter’s Daughter (Penguin Michael Joseph, 2022), her first book, is inspired by her family history. Using a photo of her mother’s family from 1935 in Hong Kong, Teresa traces their story and uncovers the rich life of her great-aunt Fanny and a world of sworn spinsters, ghost husbands and the working-class feminists of 19th century south China.

Teresa read Economics and Sociology with Anthropology at the University of Singapore. She was a business journalist in Singapore and Hong Kong before switching to finance while in Kuala Lumpur. She stopped work In 1991 to raise her family. After moving to the UK she wrote a fortnightly column for several years on life in London for The Straits Times, Singapore. Teresa lives in south London and Devon with her husband. They have two grown-up sons.
