Anime Adaption Of The Imaginary To Release 2022

Studio Ponoc has released the trailer for the film adaptation of the award-winning picture book The Imaginary by A.F. Harrold and Emily Gravett. The book tells the moving story of Amanda Shuffleup and her best friend Rudger, who just so happens to be imaginary. When Rudger is kidnapped by the sinister Mr Bunting, he must fight for his survival and his friendship.

The anime movie based on the book is directed by Yoshiyuki Momose (Life Ain’t Gonna Lose short in Ponoc’s Modest Heroes anime anthology, Ni no Kuni film, Ponoc’s Olympic Games short Tomorrow’s Leaves) and produced by Yoshiaki Nishimura, a Studio Ghibli alum, who has worked on Ponoc films Mary and The Witch’s Flower and Modest Heroes. It is planned for release in Japan in Summer 2022 and the trailer can be viewed here.

Emily is now hard at work on her next picture book 10 Cats, which is due to be published in 2022 by PanMacmillan.
