Arthur: The Always King

Kevin Crossley-Holland and Chris Riddell, two award-winning masters of storytelling and illustration, come together for their first joint live event and signing at Waterstones Piccadilly, London on 4th November 2021 to launch publication of Arthur: The Always King (Walker Books). The enthralling world of Arthurian legend is reborn with this extraordinary retelling, stunningly illustrated in full colour by the former Children’s Laureate.

Illustrated classics have been a feature of Chris Riddell’s work over the past year. His Alice in Wonderland was joined in 2021 by a mesmerising Through the Looking Glass (both Macmillan), with art for the books being featured in the V&A’s exhibition Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser, which continues until the end of 2021. The RHS also celebrated 150 years of the iconic Alice story by using Chris Riddell’s illustrations for their own Wonderland trails for children at five of their gardens throughout the summer holidays.

Chris’s special illustrated edition of Douglas Adam’s cult classic The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Macmillan) was also published in April 2021 in time for the book’s 42nd birthday with rights sold to the USA, Poland, Bulgaria, Brazil, Russia and Armenia.
