Hazel Gardiner has unveiled her wonderful installation for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this week.
Standing in Serpentine Walk within the Sanctuary Gardens, Deep Rooted is an immersive and layered exhibit, incorporating wallpaper by sponsor Morris & Co, exploring the importance of forest preservation for the world’s biodiversity and human wellbeing.
The installation embodies Hazel Gardiner Design’s signature studio style which is attuned to the imaginative use of colour, texture, and movement with a hint of the unexpected. This exhibit is crafted with roses, foxgloves and seasonal stems chosen for precious properties such as being edible, fragranced, or used for medicinal remedies. Beautifully architectural branches curve and trail the letters, romantically enveloping the British foliage, flowers and herbs.
The exhibit features natural Hazel, Willow and striking rhododendron branches. Many of these sculptural branches have been ethically and sustainably sourced, including vines from the low intervention Welsh vineyard run by Hazel’s sister and brother in law.
The colour palette is informed by the decorative wallpaper of British textile designer William Morris who’s work adorns the exhibit’s lettering, adding depth to the design.
