Lauren Child’s Clarice Bean returns for Christmas

The one and only Clarice Bean is back to save her family’s Christmas in Clarice Bean: Think Like an Elf, which will be published on the 28th October 2022 by HarperCollins Children’s Books. This new story finds Clarice tackling her new challenge of trying exceptionordinarily hard to stop the Christmas spirit completely floating away.

The very first Clarice Bean was published in 1999, and since then has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. Its wit and warmth – and Clarice Bean’s idiosyncratic take on friends, family, and the world around her has captivated readers for more than 20 years.

Its publication follows the launch Lauren Child’s recent manifesto calling for attitudes towards children’s books to change, criticising the assumption that creating work with children in mind is easier or less demanding. Her manifesto came just a couple of weeks after a six-year project from the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education found that using picture books in primary schools, and making drawing part of the learning process, improves children’s writing and reading skills.

You can find out more about The Power of Pictures here and also see Lauren in a number of events coming up before Christmas, including: the Hay Festival Winter Weekend 26-28th  November, Seven Stories for Schools on 3rd November the V&A At home virtual event on the 5th December, as well as a select number of book signings.
