Richard Hough is playwright who started his career as a comedian, which means that even his most serious dramas don’t always take themselves too seriously.

Current projects in development include: Tomas Mann’s Death In Venice and an adaptation of Peeter Rebane’s Firebird.

Richard has written book and lyrics for a range of new musicals including: Graham Greene’s Our Man In Havana (Watermill Theatre dir. Amy Draper); A Christmas Carol (The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough dir. Luke Sheppard); Billy The Kid (For NYMT / Leicester Curve dir. Kate Golledge); The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (Southwark Playhouse / Online).

As a comedy writer for hire, Richard contributed jokes and sketches to several BBC TV and radio shows (his credits include RevolverThe Now ShowLoose EndsWhat’s The Story? and The News Quiz). With producer Ben Walker, he developed a sitcom (Mad About The Boy) and his own darkly comic sketch-show (The Chiller Cabinet) for Radio 4. For Ealing Studios, in the early 2000s, he wrote a show about the depths of human idiocy called Dumber & Dumber (broadcast on Channel 5).
